"Black&Blue is written about the mark of my first love. We were children, 13 & 14, fickle and innocent in love. Also my first heartbreak, as it goes. The midsection poem was written later, at Mission: Wolf, Colorado, where I moved through love and loss again, almost 10 years later.
This will be on my very first upcoming album, most of which was written while I was at Mission: Wolf and the seasons of life that immediately followed - Madi Laughlin
I loved a boy who was just like you
He wore Black
and I wore Blue
Said "I love you,"
He said "me too."
We fought one time and now we're through.
And I don't know where to go.
I don't know
where to go.
I loved a boy who was just like you
He loved me till I was
Black
and Blue.
Pink, pink, pink,
and blue
you purple me up
and rouge my cheek
rogue, loose, untamed
unnamed, unmaned, unmanned,
unscathed in not an option.
Door swings wide & floor drops beneath,
and sky, everlasting, expands into my reach,
Freedom!
freedom.
But at what cost? What have I lost? Am I willing to lose?
And yet, I choose it
this shame and proximity to you.
Eyes heavy once again,
weighed by a summer's storm
I have broken my cycles!
But...
I wish to be a cloud!
As floating and free as I please,
and when it storms
no one can blame me.
A million pounds yet floating,
A million pounds, yet light.
A million sounds above me,
A million sounds below.
I loved a boy who was just like you
He wore Black
and I wore Blue
Said "I love you,"
He said "me too."
We fought one time and now we're through.
And I don't know where to go.
I don't know
where to go.
I loved a boy who was just like you
He loved me till I was
Black
and Blue.
